A heavy rain alert remains in force for the whole of the Fiji group as a slow-moving trough of low pressure continues to sit over the country.

The Fiji Meteorological Service says the associated cloud and rain is expected to persist into next week.

Northern Vanua Levu, Western and Northern Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca

Communities in Bua, Lekutu, Dreketi, Seaqaqa, Labasa, Namuka and Udu Point, along with Momi, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba and Ra, and the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups should expect occasional rain, heavy at times, with isolated thunderstorms.

Other parts of the country can expect occasional rain and a few thunderstorms, with heavier falls likely in the afternoon or evening.

Possible impacts

  • Flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying communities, informal settlements and Irish crossings, causing traffic disruptions.
  • Slippery roads leading to hazardous driving conditions and increased risk of accidents, especially in poorly drained areas.

Forecast confidence is moderate.

The next Special Weather Bulletin is expected around 10.30pm tonight, or earlier if conditions change.
