Heavy rainfall has damaged about 3.5 kilometres of dirt road, making it difficult for vehicles to pass.

FRA said most of the deterioration occurs at points where logging trucks frequently turn in and out of forest areas.

The waterlogged stretch had become a daily hazard for motorists, with deep potholes and soft ground making travel difficult, especially after rain.

Residents said the damaged culvert had not only affected transport services but had also raised safety concerns, particularly during periods of heavy rain.

FRA advises motorists to expect overnight closure until 5am; Suva-bound lanes remain open.
