Heavy rain alert issued for Fiji

A Heavy Rain Alert is in force for the entire Fiji Group as an active trough of low pressure continues to affect weather conditions.
The Fiji Meteorological Service says periods of rain, including isolated thunderstorms and heavy downpours, are expected over the coming days.
The heaviest falls are forecast for the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, interior and western parts of Viti Levu — including Ra–Rakiraki, Tavua–Ba–Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka to Navua, and interior areas of Ba, Ra, Nadroga/Navosa, Serua and Namosi — as well as Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

Elsewhere, cloudy periods with showers and afternoon or evening thunderstorms are expected, with conditions set to worsen from tomorrow as rain becomes more widespread.
Authorities warn of possible flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, surface flooding in urban centres, and disruptions at Irish crossings and along key roads.
Drivers are advised to take extra caution due to reduced visibility and slippery roads during heavy rain.
The Fiji Meteorological Service is urging the public to remain alert, particularly in flood-prone areas, as localised heavy rain may develop quickly.
