Heavy rain warning issued as flooding risk rises across Fiji

Fijians are being urged to prepare for possible flash flooding, traffic disruptions and dangerous driving conditions after a Heavy Rain Warning was issued for the entire country.
The Fiji Meteorological Service upgraded its alert to a warning as an active trough of low pressure moved closer to the group, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms.
Forecasters said cloud and rain associated with the system were already affecting Fiji and were expected to continue until later tomorrow.

Conditions are forecast to gradually improve from western parts of the country by midday tomorrow.
The weather office warned that the prolonged rainfall could trigger flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone communities, including informal settlements, businesses and Irish crossings.
Motorists have also been advised to exercise caution, with surface flooding expected on roads in urban areas with poor drainage.
Wet roads and reduced visibility during heavy downpours are likely to make travelling hazardous.
Authorities are urging the public to monitor weather updates closely and take necessary precautions, particularly those living in flood-prone areas.
The Fiji Meteorological Service said the next Special Weather Bulletin would be issued later today or earlier if conditions warrant.
