The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) has urged the public to remain vigilant as a Heavy Rain Warning remains in force across the country.

In a public advisory issued yesterday, the NDRMO warned residents, particularly those in flood-prone and low-lying areas, to be prepared for heavy rainfall, possible flooding and strong winds.

A Strong Wind Warning is also in force for land areas in the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, western Viti Levu, northern Vanua Levu and Kadavu.

The warning also applies to surrounding waters, including the Yasawa and Mamanuca waters, southwest Viti Levu waters, northern Vanua Levu waters, Kadavu waters and the Vatu-i-Ra Passage.

Members of the public have been advised to secure their homes, boats and loose items to minimise damage and to exercise extreme caution when travelling, especially near rivers, streams and coastal areas.

Mariners have been strongly advised to avoid rough seas and to strictly adhere to all marine warnings currently in force.

The NDRMO has encouraged the public to continue monitoring official weather updates from the Fiji Meteorological Service and to follow all advice and instructions issued by relevant authorities.
