A second Severe Tropical Cyclone in the region is not expected to affect Fiji, authorities say.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Maila, a Category 3 system, is currently located in the Solomon Sea between Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands and remains within Australia’s area of responsibility.

Forecasts indicate the system will remain slow-moving over the next two days before tracking west-southwest from Thursday.

Authorities say the cyclone poses no threat to Fiji and is not expected to impact the country in the coming days.

However, the presence of two Category 3 systems in the South Pacific highlights continued cyclone activity across the region.

The public is advised to stay informed through official updates from the Fiji Meteorological Service and remain prepared as weather conditions can change.
