The Fiji Meteorological Service says Tropical Depression TD03F has moved into Fiji waters overnight and is currently passing to the north of the country.

As of 6am today, the system was located about 460 kilometres north of Labasa and is tracking eastwards, continuing to move well away from Fiji.

While the depression is not expected to directly affect the mainland, associated rain bands may bring periods of heavy rain to Rotuma today as the system passes north of Vanua Levu.

The Heavy Rain Warning has been cancelled for most parts of the country.

However, it remains in force for Vanua Levu and the Northern Lau Group as a precautionary measure, with the Fiji Meteorological Service indicating it is likely to be lifted later today.

Flood Warnings across most areas have been downgraded to Flood Alerts, as some rivers and catchments remain high following recent rainfall.

Mariners are advised to expect southeast to northeast winds of 15 to 20 knots, with moderate to rough seas.

For the rest of the day, generally fine weather is forecast, with sunny periods and occasional passing showers.

With improving conditions and the festive season approaching, authorities are encouraging the public to remain alert in flood-prone areas while making the most of the sunny breaks to prepare homes and communities ahead of Christmas.
