Authorities said at 12am today, the system was located north of Fiji and moving south at about five knots.
Tropical Depression 11F has intensified into a tropical cyclone and is now named Tropical Cyclone Vaianu (Category 1).

Current winds near the centre are estimated at 40 knots and are expected to strengthen further.

Winds may increase to 50 knots later today and up to 60 knots by tomorrow, with strong winds extending outward, particularly on the eastern side of the system.
The cyclone is forecast to continue moving south to southeast over the next 24 hours while intensifying.
While the system remains north of Fiji, it is being closely monitored and further updates will be issued as necessary.
