Maikah Lomax Dau will captain Fiji’s Under-17 football team at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

Dau, who recently signed with Bula FC, has led the U-17 squad during training as they fine-tune their preparations before travelling to Doha.

Speaking at the team’s farewell on Tuesday night, Fiji Football Association vice-president Naziah Ali urged the players to make the most of the opportunity to represent Fiji on the world stage.

“You have earned this opportunity through hard work, discipline and sacrifice,” she said.

“Not every young footballer gets the chance to represent their country at a FIFA World Cup, so make every moment count.

“Give your best, believe in yourselves and remember that you carry the hopes and pride of your families and the people of Fiji.”

Ali also acknowledged the sacrifices made by parents and families.

Fiji head coach Stephane Auvray urged the players to focus on their development, improve as a team and make the most of every training session rather than worry about their opponents.
