The Shiva Ram- captained Nadi Andhra football side is aiming to end a 17-year title drought at the Andhra Sangam Inter-District (IDC) Championship at Churchill Park, Lautoka, this weekend.

The squad is boosted by the inclusion of Vinay Vikash, Anneel Ram and Simon Reddy.

Nadi Andhra last won the title in 2009, beating Saweni 5-4 on penalty kicks in the final.

Last year, the side went down 0-1 to Samabula in extra time at the then Prince Charles Park, Nadi.

Nadi Andra head coach Ranjeet Singh said the team is in good shape to reclaim the trophy.

“It has been a while since we’ve had the upper hand in this competition and we hope to end the drought,” he said.

During the jersey presentation on Wednesday night, Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Lawrence Kumar urged the team to play quality football, show pride and respect for officials and opponents.

The team is sponsored by Malolo Trading Centre.

Nadi Andhra is in Pool 2 alongside Samabula, Vaqia and Rifle Range.

Lomawai faces Ba in the opening match at Churchill Park, Lautoka. The final is scheduled for Monday at 2.30pm.
