Church-led ECE project to improve early learning access in Taveuni

A new Early Childhood Education (ECE) centre in Taveuni is set to improve access to early learning for about 100 children as construction nears completion.
The project, led by St Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church, at Dreketi Settlement in Naqara includes four new classrooms designed to provide a modern and conducive learning environment for young learners.
Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations Agni Deo Singh, during a visit to the site, said the development would strengthen early learning opportunities in the community.

He said access to quality early childhood education was critical to shaping a child's future and supporting national development.
This Early Childhood Education project is an investment in our children's future. Education is the bedrock of national development, and it begins with quality early childhood learning. However, the first classroom is the home, where parents instil values, respect, discipline and faith that shape a child's character.

He said while the Government continued to invest in education, families also played a vital role in shaping children's values and development.
Mr Singh encouraged parents to take an active role in preparing their children for school and supporting their growth through guidance at home and participation in community and faith-based activities.
He acknowledged the contribution of Shane Construction in progressing the project. Mr Singh said the new classrooms would provide a safe and supportive environment for children to learn and develop.
He reaffirmed the Coalition Government's commitment to education, highlighting continued support through free education, transport assistance, textbooks and back-to-school programmes.
"These classrooms will provide a safe and nurturing environment where our youngest children can learn, grow and prepare for the future. This project will leave a lasting legacy for the community."
Mr Singh said the aim was to ensure all children had equal opportunities to succeed regardless of their background. He also thanked the church and community stakeholders for supporting the project.
The facility is expected to benefit families in Taveuni by improving access to early childhood education and supporting long-term development outcomes.
