Acting DPP Nancy Tikoisuva confirms interest in permanent appointment

The acting director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva intends to apply for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) position.

She confirmed this yesterday.

The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) first advertised the position in July, with applications closing on July 24. The vacancy was later re-advertised, with a new closing date of August 21.

Ms Tikoisuva told this masthead yesterday that she had seen the revised advertisement and was considering submitting an application.

The JSC has also re-advertised the position of Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner.

Acting FICAC Commissioner Lavi Rokoika referred all questions about the vacancy and the revised criteria to the JSC.

Attempts to obtain comment from the JSC about the reopened vacancy were unsuccessful when this edition went to press.

To be appointed as the DPP or a FICAC Commissioner, applicants must: –

• be currently admitted as a legal practitioner in Fiji or in another country prescribed by law and have 15 years post admission experience and should possess knowledge, skills and experience in a similar field;
• have two to three (2-3) years of people management or supervisory experience leading teams;
• possess formal degree qualification in a relevant field from a recognised university is highly desirable;
• demonstrate the ability to think strategically and must be willing to work towards ensuring that the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is recognised as an accountable and transparent organisation;
• have relevant skills and expertise to manage staff, resources with sensitivity and integrity, and possess the appropriate leadership skills to manage and lead the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to deliver and achieve a standard of excellence;
• have proven ability to manage relationships with all relevant stakeholders of DPP; and
• not have any criminal records or Independent Legal Services Commission conviction.

Preferred Administrative Management Qualifications:

• Senior level staff management – Integrity, Accountability, Transparency and Anti-corruptionstrategies;
• Demonstrated experience in annual strategic planning and monthly segmentation;
• Annual budget setting and accounting and implementation planning;
• Resources planning & management – Staff, infrastructure, training (including in-service- training.)
