EFL Labasa Fire Causes Power Disruption

Some communities within Labasa are without electricity supply after a fire at the Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) Labasa Power Station in Cawaira.
EFL chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said the fire started from one of the big thermal generators at about 10:22pm on Sunday.
Mr Patel said this caused an unplanned power outage.

The National Fire Authority (NFA) managed to put the fire under control.
“The EFL team is checking the status of the remaining diesel generating sets together with the other electrical network at the station,” Mr Patel said.
“We will advise our customers in Labasa when we expect to restore the power supply situation in Labasa.
“We regret the inconvenience caused as a result to our customers in the Labasa district.”
