Man dies from burns after freak accident

A 34-year-old man from Maro in Nadroga who was admitted at the Lautoka Aspen Hospital has died.

Dead is Amar Jeet Singh who sustained 36 per cent burns, died on Wednesday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Mr Singh was allegedly involved in a freak accident on October 1 along Maro Road at Natadola.

His elder brother, Jasveer Singh, 37, said Amar would be missed.

The victim was waiting for heavy smoke from a burning field close by to clear before they continued their journey.

Due to the impact of the accident, the vehicle ending in the fire where they sustained burns.

“The occupants in the vehicle were all rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital and later transferred to Lautoka,” Ms Naisoro said.

She said the woman was discharged after four days with injuries to her leg while the nine-year-old girl was discharged on Tuesday.

Ms Naisoro confirmed that the suspect, the driver of the minibus, was questioned and released as investigations continue.
