Two national sports representatives are stepping into top roles to shape school leadership through sports.

Brieanna Rabakewa and Vivaan Patel were respectively appointed head girl and head boy of Swami Vivekananda College in Nadi last Friday.

Rabakewa, a Year 13 student was Fiji’s discus bronze medallist at the 2023 Pacific Games in Solomon Islands.

She said the appointment was the result of years of discipline and faith.

“As an athlete, I have learned what it means to fall and rise again, to push beyond limits, and to stay disciplined even when no one is watching,” Rabakewa said.

Quoting a Bible verse from James 4:10: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you” — Rabakewa said she was grateful for the opportunity to serve.

“Being elected head girl fills my heart with gratitude and pride. This moment is not just an achievement; it is the result of a journey filled with challenges, growth, and determination during my five years at SVC and

through God’s guidance,” she said.

“Sport has taught me resilience, teamwork, and perseverance. Success is not always about winning, but about the effort and heart you put into everything you do. Being head girl is not just a title; it is a responsibility.”

She will also defend her gold in the senior girl's discus throw at this year’s Fiji finals.

Patel, who is originally from Namaka, represented Fiji in powerlifting championships in 2024 and 2025.

“Being called forward as head boy for 2026 was a moment filled with gratitude and humility,” he said.

“Hearing my name announced reflected the dedication and perseverance that shaped my journey.”

He acknowledged the support of his parents, teachers, and the school administration.

“Their belief in my potential in-spired me to grow not only academically and in sports, but also as a re-sponsible leader. I look forward to serving the school community with integrity and unity,” Patel said.

Patel’s father, Dickson Patel, was a former head boy of Rakiraki Public High School.
