Divisional Commissioner Western, Apolosi Lewaqai, has confirmed that the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) will look after the main highways and Public Works Department will look after the community access roads, especially in the rural areas.

These comments were made during a talanoa session with Nasau, Nadi community members who raised their concern about better access roads and crossings.

The coalition Government insisted on bringing back the Public Works Department (PWD) compared to having private contracts who bore the burden of costs of heavy equipment and their upkeep.

However, Commissioner Western said there were a lot of requirements and procedures to be followed for better roads.

The Minister for Rural Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka opened the Nasau Community access road and crossing.

“Yes, it is part of our plan to bring back PWD, especially on community access roads as such,” Mr Ditoka said.
