What was supposed to be a normal day to sell vegetables at the stall turned shocking for Litia Naisake.

This is after she saw the lifeless body of a woman in the drain opposite her stall at Daniva Road, Valelevu in Nasinu yesterday.

The 27-year-old while telling of the horrific discovery said the woman could have been in her 30s.

“The body was found face down; the deceased was wearing a white pants and green shirt with her shoes and bag lying near her body.”

Ms Naisake said it was around 9am when Police made their way to the scene and discovered the body.

“All three Police officers came outside and were looking into the drain. That grabbed our attention,” she said.

“I was in shock when I saw the body, this is the first time to see something like that.”

Ms Naisake said the body was first discovered by two boys on a walk.

“The two boys saw the body and I also ran towards them, the Police came later,” she said.

“I thought it was someone I knew and was related to. I could not concentrate on my market and kept on coming and going.

“We always see her every day but this morning I did not see her as she usually passes this way by 7am or 8am.”

Ms Naisake said when Police turned the body, her forehead had a cut

“The only thing I saw was a mark on her head, like a big cut on the right side,” she said.

Ms Naisake said the deceased’s elder sister also came down to the scene and spoke to the Police.

The elder sister told me that she had left the house at around 7am to drop off the children at the school and after that she was supposed to go to the supermarket to buy something.

“She said the deceased suffered from seizures. Unfortunately, no one saw anything when it happened,” she said.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the body had been identified.

She confirmed two students reported that while walking along Daniva Road, Valelevu they saw a woman lying motionless in the drain.
