Nadroga wins primary schools netball title

Nadroga Primary Schools Netball Association (NPSNA) achieved its goal of winning the overall title at the 2026 Crest Fiji Primary Schools Netball Tournament at Subrail Park in Labasa on Thursday night.

The victory ended the dominance of Suva and Nasinu.

The Stallions secured Tier 1 titles in the Under-9, Under-10 and Under-13 girls’ grades.

Nadroga defeated Suva 8-4 in the U9 final, edged Suva 8-7 in the U10, and beat Suva 26-24 in extra time in the U13 decider.

NPSNA president Laisayani Duba said weeks of preparation paid off with strong performances across the grades.

“We are happy to take a few trophies back to the West,” she said.

She confirmed the association fielded seven teams from U9 to U14.

Duba said the side embraced its underdog status and used it as motivation.

She said Nadroga would be proud of how the girls represented their tikina and etched their names into history.

Duba acknowledged the support of parents, guardians, teachers, players and district officials.

“Travelling and sacrificing your time to support the team is much appreciated,” she said.

The U13 final went down to the wire, with Nadroga edging favourites Suva 26-24 after the scores were locked 24-24 at full-time.

Players were in tears after securing the memorable win.

Grade head coach Metuisela Mara described the victory as a result of hard work and patience.

He said their high-intensity play disrupted Suva’s rhythm.

Mara said determination helped them overcome the odds to claim the title.
