A December 23 date has been set to hear whether former journalist and sports marketing expert Charlie Charters has leave to pursue a judicial review.

The review challenges the legality of Acting Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner Lavinia Rokoika’s appointment.

The date was set this morning by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere at the High Court in Suva.

In his application, Charters is seeking declarations that Rokoika’s appointment in May 2025 was unconstitutional.

He is also challenging the legality of his arrest at the airport, the travel ban imposed on him and the criminal charges that followed, arguing that the actions were unlawful and therefore void.

The court heard that lawyer Tevita Tangaroa Vakalalabure would represent Rokoika, the fourth respondent in the proceedings. This resolved outstanding applications relating to service.

Under the court’s directions, Rokoika must file her affidavit in opposition by November 18.

Charters must file his written submissions by December 11, while submissions from the respondents are due by December 18.
