$1.5 Billion Marijuana Uprooted From Kadavu, Police Says

Between January and October 21, 2021, the Fiji Police Force has uprooted $1.5 billion worth of marijuana from Kadavu.

This was confirmed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chief of Operations Abdul Khan.

Since January this year, a total of 90,027 plants have been uprooted with 36 arrests made by the Police.

The street value of the marijuana plants is $1,500,386,000.

Mr Khan said officers were deployed on a rotational basis to assist with the drug operations on Kadavu.

He said the success of the drug operations was dependent on the support of community and religious leaders.

“This is because those who are cultivating the illegal drugs are living in the same communities therefore the sharing of information is important to curbing the illegal activity,” ACP Khan said.

He added that more farms were raided during operations on a weekly and fortnightly basis.

“We note that there has been unauthorised inter-island travel happening during this second wave of operations and as in the past on inter-island shipping vessels,” ACP Khan said.

“We do not want to go into details as to the strategies in place, however, we are mindful of the entry points and are monitoring these places.”
