A bench warrant has been issued for a former school teacher after he failed to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday to answer charges linked to an alleged social media post.

Kishore Kumar was scheduled to appear before Magistrate Sufia Hamza, who issued the warrant following his absence.

Kumar faces charges relating to a video allegedly posted on social media in December 2022.

It is alleged that while at the Suva Magistrates Court on December 14, 2022, he gained access to a Facebook account that was not his and used it to upload a video to a social media page called Power In His Voice.

The prosecution claims the video contained abusive and vulgar remarks directed at Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Minister Agni Deo Singh, who was serving as general secretary of the Fiji Teachers Union at the time.

The matter has been adjourned to November 13.
