Kaminieli Varo, 32, was laid to rest at his village of Navoci, Nadi last Friday.

The father of five drowned in New South Wales, Australia, at the Murrumbidgee River near Yanco early this month. His body was found a few days later.

He moved to Australia in 2022 under the National Employment Centre (NEC) Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme for a four-year contract, which he was due to complete next year.

His wife, Mere Dawai said he was scheduled to return home in time to spend Christmas with their family.

Friends and family members of the deceased gathered yesterday to bid him a final farewell. Words of gratitude from the family were attributed to his workmates and friends who joined the search party in locating his body.

He is survived by his wife and five children.
