The Homecoming Fiji Festival has announced the death of Fiji-born music icon George Brooks Veikoso, better known by his stage name "Fiji".
He passed away at the age of 55.
The award-winning vocalist, songwriter, producer, and beloved performer died on Tuesday, July 23.

The legend was due to host his second homecoming concert in Fiji this September.
“As we deal with the immense sadness for our beloved George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso, a legend whose music united generations, and whose spirit uplifted many around the world,” Festival organisers stated in a Facebook post.
“As we take this moment to honour his life and legacy, we ask for your patience and understanding at this difficult time. We will provide an update regarding the Homecoming Festival soon.
“Our thoughts, love and prayers are with George Fiji Veikoso and his Family, Friends and Fans as we all grieve together with the sudden loss of the King of Island Reggae.”

Born on May 10, 1970, ‘Fiji’ rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most influential Pacific artists of his generation.
He was raised in Fiji and first discovered his love for music in church, where he enjoyed singing as a child.
He Fiji released multiple acclaimed albums, performed on international stages, and collaborated with artists from across the globe.
He was also known for his occasional appearances on screen and his support for young Pacific artists, often encouraging them to stay true to their roots.
