Team Fiji wins seven gold medals in Darwin

Team Fiji has claimed seven gold medals, six silver and three bronze on day four of the Oceania Athletics Championship at Darwin, Australia.

Suva Grammar school (SGS) student and high jumper Sitiveni Kuanaivalu led the momentum in Fiji’s campaign when he cleared the bar at 1.95 metres to win gold in the Under-20 boy’s high jump finals.

His schoolmate and Fiji finals blue ribbon winner Paula Vonolagi won gold in the U20 boys 100 metres final. He finished the race at an impressive time of 10.70s.

Veniana Ranadi took out the gold medal in the U16 girls 100m finals. The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) student clocked in at 12.39s.

SGS’s Elijah Vakacegu scooped another gold medal for Fiji in the U16 Boys 800m finals. He clocked in at 2.01.60s.

Australian based athlete Eleni Rakasi powerful throw won her gold in the U16 girls discus throw finals with a distance of 41.73. She set a new Oceania record and broke the previous record of 38.85 by Saskia Josipovic in 2022.

SVC (Swami Vivekananda College) Brieanna Rabakewa also won gold in the U20 girls discus throw finals. She recorded a distance of 40.21m.

Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) Kirikiti Biu settled for silver in the U16 Boys 100m finals. His time was 11.44s. Natabua’s Ceva Lutumailagi won gold in the U20 girls 800m finals with a time of 2.20.92s.

Faarhan Ali of SGS was the runner-up in the U20 Boys shotput finals with a throw of 13.60m. MGM’s Gladness Simpson ranked second in the U20 girls 800m finals with a time of 2.30.87s.
