Founded in 1992, Dee Cee’s Nadera Panthers continued to show why they are one of the best after overpowering Lami Steelers 56-6 in Round Four of the Vodafone Cup Southern Zone competition last Saturday.

The Panthers, who have won a record 15 national titles, again displayed the quality that has made them a powerhouse in Fiji rugby league and a major development pathway for the Fiji Bati.

Despite the convincing victory, head coach Vula Dakuitoga said there is still plenty to improve, particularly on the defensive end.

“I have high expectations because I know what this team is capable of,” he said.

“Our defence wasn’t where I ex pected it to be. That was the biggest area we needed to improve.”

Dakuitoga said he challenged his must-read porters to continue backing the team. players to raise their defensive intensity, reminding them that tougher contests await as the competition reaches its crucial stages.

“I told the boys that we have to work harder on our defence because when we get to the business end of the competition, it will be a different story altogether,” he said.

While pleased with the attacking display, the Panthers mentor believes maintaining high standards in defence will be key to the club’s title aspirations.

The Nasinu-based side has built a proud reputation over more than three decades, producing numerous players who have gone on to repre sent the Fiji Bati and cementing its place among the country’s premier rugby league clubs. Looking ahead to Round Five, Dakuitoga called on Panthers sup Vula Dakuitoga.

“We’re asking our fans and supporters to come out in numbers next weekend and support the team. We’ll keep working hard and come back even stronger.”
