An 80-year-old man of Namosi has pleaded not guilty to all charges of raping his granddaughter last August.

He appeared before Madam Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull on Friday with our counts of rape and two count of sexual assault.

It is alleged that the man had been indecently touching his granddaughter, who is a minor, and raped her on multiple occasions.

State Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid told the court there were full admissions in his caution interview, and he had admitted the whole incident to the arresting officer on the day of his arrest.

Mr Zunaid said they weren’t objecting to bail since none of the family members of the accused came forward as his surety.

The accused stood up in court, despite his Legal Aid Commission lawyer sitting at the bar table and sought court directions for his bail as there were sureties sitting in court.

The man spoke in iTaukei telling the court his bail was granted previously with sureties left to be produced. The court warned him to respect the court and communicate through his lawyer.

Mr Zunaid said the State strongly objected bail because of the seriousness of the offence.

The matter has been adjourned to February 13.
