Government to review peacekeeping strategy: PM
PM Rabuka also paid tribute to Fiji’s peacekeepers, describing their service as a source of national pride

The Government through the Ministry of Defense, is reviewing the peacekeeping strategy.
This was revealed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in his New Year message, reiterating Fiji's stand for peace and peacekeeping footprint.
"The region's Ocean of Peace Declaration tells the world our belief and stand for peace - where dialogue triumphs over division, and cooperation prevails over conflict," Mr Rabuka said.

Mr Rabuka also paid tribute to Fiji’s peacekeepers, describing their service as a source of national pride while reaffirming Government’s commitment to strengthening national security.
He acknowledged the 165 members of the final contingent of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ First Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment, who recently returned from peacekeeping duties in Iraq.
He said Fiji’s peacekeeping legacy remains one of the nation’s most respected contributions to global peace, built on generations of disciplined and professional service.
“Keeping peace is never easy. There is always a price for peace, and while Government bears the financial cost, our soldiers and their families carry the deeper sacrifice,” Mr Rabuka said.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged Fijian peacekeepers currently serving overseas, assuring them they remain in the nation’s thoughts and prayers until their safe return.
