It was another surgery for injured stevedore Joji Tuipolotu yesterday, and this time on his jaw.

The 37-year-old is still admitted in hospital.

It is now three weeks from the time he was injured by a swinging container while working on the MV Southern Pearl.

The 40 feet container weighed around 29 tonnes.

According to  Mr Tuipolotu was hit by a swinging container.

On Sunday, he was visited by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama who gave Mr Tuipolotu some encouragement.

Mr Tuipolotu’s brother Pita Ligaiua said his brother was recovering well.

“Hip operation went well at Oceania Hospitals, he is now at CWM Hospital this morning to have his jaw fixed."

"Once his operation is done today (yesterday) then they will focus on physio- because it takes about six weeks to remove the brace on his hip,” he said.

Mr Ligaiua said up until that time, his brother would be bedridden. The family is also looking to make an application to the Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji for the injuries sustained by Mr Tuipolotu.

Fiji Ports Terminal Limited in an earlier response had stated safety of all workers and any port users was paramount and ensured that any workers engaged in operations were adequately equipped with appropriate safety gears, which in fact mitigated the impact.

The company is yet to reveal the outcome of their investigation into the incident.
