Labasa hosts Catholic women’s convention after 30 years

About 1,500 Catholic women from across Fiji are expected to converge on Labasa as the Holy Family Parish hosts the Catholic Women’s League annual convention and annual general meeting for the first time in 30 years.
The five-day programme begins today at about 6pm at the Holy Family Primary School grounds.

“We are so excited to host this programme and actually began with the preparation from early this year,” Ms Lesuma said.
“We are having this programme now during the school holidays so that mothers who are our members can also get the opportunity to travel to attend this.”
A key part of the programme will be an anti-drug awareness march through Labasa Town on Saturday.
Ms Lesuma said the women would march from the Labasa Civic Centre to Holy Family Parish from 8am to raise awareness about drugs.
The annual general meeting will be held on Sunday, followed by a traditional wedding attire showcase.
The convention will also feature a candlelight procession and the sale of handicrafts.
Ms Lesuma urged Catholic women to attend, saying there would always be something for them to learn.
