Marist Sevens Entries Closed: Lawrence Tikaram

Entry to this year’s 48th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s men’s division is closed.

The three-day event will be held at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva from March 21-23.

Yesterday Marist Rugby club president Lawrence Tikaram said: “The 49 spots for the men, U21 and U18 are fully booked, we only have three spots left in the women’s and three spots in the U18 girls; hopefully by this week those spots should go."

Marist organisers are expecting over 1900 players and 180 games this year.

Royal Marines (British Navy) are the only overseas team; they arrive next week.

Tikaram indicated that the national sides will be placed in a strong pool with the top five sevens team in the tournament to give them a tough competition.

“I think they need quality games and it can only be found here at home at the Marist 7s and the local circuit.

“As organisers of the longest 7s event, our role is to ensure that we continue to create this environment for our players to perform at the highest level and by doing that we encourage fans to come out and show their support for the Fiji team.”

Police Blue is the defending champion of the Marist 7s.
