Fiji Public Service Commission chairperson Luke Rokovada has confirmed that a new permanent secretary will soon be appointed to the Ministry of Information. Mr Rokovada said Government will have 24 permanent secretaries in total.
“This figure is correct about 24 permanent secretaries,” Mr Rokovada said, noting that the number has increased compared to the previous government, which had 18. Rokovada explained that some of the new appointments were necessary due to contract completions and creation of new positions.
“In 2023, we appointed 11 new permanent secretaries,” he said.

“Some existing permanent secretaries were finishing their contracts, and some new positions were created, so we recruited about 11 positions at a time.”
He emphasised that decisions on the number and placement of permanent secretaries are made by the Government.
“It’s not for us to decide,” Mr Rokovada said. “Whatever Government decides, we go ahead and appoint them.”
The appointments reflect both a reshuffle within ministries and efforts to fill newly created positions, signaling an ongoing expansion of Fiji’s senior public service.
