Oceania Hospitals, Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association sign deal to boost athlete care

Oceania Hospitals and the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association (FSSAA) have signed a two-year partnership to strengthen medical support for student athletes.

The Memorandum of Understanding will see Oceania Hospitals provide medical services, healthcare support and referral pathways for athletes and officials during FSSAA events like the Coca-Cola games.

Oceania Hospitals chief executive officer Dr David Qumivutia said the partnership would improve access to healthcare services for young athletes.

“We are delighted to be able to sign this MoU with the association," Dr Qumivutia said.

"We have been in this business now for the last 25 years and three common factors we have seen apart from other considerations is that patients who utilize our services always hope to see these three things. Accessibility, timeliness and quality of care.

"With the MoU we are signing today, I can assure the FSSAA we are strengthening offering Accessibility, timeliness and quality of care can give particularly to athletes and all parties involved. We are strengthening relationships with community, especially children our future generations.”

FSSAA general secretary Biu Colati welcomed the partnership, describing it as a boost for school sports.

“Im excited to be standing here for this signing today. For our children, the sporting fraternity," Mr Colati said.

"We are pleased and proud to be part of this partnership and we look forward to a long term partnership.”

The agreement is aimed at improving the health, safety and wellbeing of Fiji’s young athletes, both on and off the field.
