The residents of Qauia Settlement in Lami, claim they have the biggest bus stop in the nation and it only needs another 20 roofing irons to be completed.
After the rusted and unsafe bus stop fell, the residents of Qauia Settlement gave whatever they could. Even former residents living abroad provided some money to build a new bus stop.
Project co-ordinator Kameli Ratuvou said they need 20 more roofing irons to finish the task and hope that a donor comes along.

“The bus stop is the only shelter residents, including school children, have when it rains or when there is a storm,” Mr Ratuvou said.
“We have given what we can, but with Christmas around the corner, everyone’s focus is their family. And we also realise that school will start in January.
“We are in a bit of a tight spot and that is why we are urging people to consider helping us finish this project.”
The population in Qauia is more than 2000. The bus service to the settlement ends at the main road.
The bus shelter is the only place where people and children can stay until the rain is cleared or until someone comes to pick them up.
Mr Ratuvou said this was a community initiative and a chance to show that Qauia Settlement was much more than what people say it is.
