The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) has advertised the position of Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS), months after the sacking of the service’s last substantive head over nepotism and misconduct findings.

The weekend advertisement invites applications from suitably qualified individuals with extensive and relevant experience in the corrections field.

Under the 2013 Constitution, the Commissioner is responsible for the organisation, administration, deployment and control of the FCS, and holds wide powers over all staff, including appointments, removals and disciplinary action. The vacancy follows the termination of former Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa, whose appointment was ended on February 26, 2026, after a COC-appointed Tribunal substantiated allegations of nepotism, abuse of office and improper handling of funds against him.

The tribunal concluded that Mr Nakarawa’s actions reflected poor leadership and amounted to misconduct, which undermined public confidence in the Fiji Corrections Service and brought disrepute to the institution.

Auta Moceisuva, who previously served as Deputy Commissioner, has been serving as Acting Commissioner since December 8, 2025, appointed by the President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu to ensure continuity of leadership.

Under the 2013 Constitution, the Commissioner is appointed by the President on the advice of the Constitutional Offices Commission, following consultation with the Minister responsible for the FCS.
