Sugar Ministry, FSC In Spotlight For Alleged Misuse Of Funds

The Public Accounts Stand­ing Committee will meet with the management of Fiji Sugar Corporation and Ministry of Sugar officials on alleged misman­agement of government grants.

The Public Accounts Stand­ing Committee will meet with the management of Fiji Sugar Corporation and Ministry of Sugar officials on alleged misman­agement of government grants.

These include:

  • Certain forms not being avail­able and procedures not in place
  • Standing operating procedures for those grants were missing.
  • Many weaknesses identified
  • Funds were administered properly, especially for those who received those grants
  • Unavailability of evaluation re­port to indicate whether the fund­ing provided really materialised or assisted farmers

These were highlighted by the Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel who is also PAC chairman during consultations in Lautoka this week.

Discussions centred on Perfor­mance Audit on the Monitoring of Implementation of the Sugarcane Development and Farmers Assis­tance Programme (PP No. 107 of 2021).
