A trough of low pressure, bringing cloud and rain, is moving east towards Fiji and is expected to begin affecting parts of the country later today.

The Fiji Meteorological Service says cloud cover will increase, with rain becoming more widespread as the system moves across the group.

An easterly wind flow continues to bring cloudy conditions to some areas.

Some places can expect periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Localised heavy downpours may reduce visibility and cause minor flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

The public is advised to:

  • Stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings from the Fiji Meteorological Service at www.met.gov.fj.
  • Take extra care when travelling during heavy rain.
  • Do not attempt to cross flooded roads, rivers or creeks.
  • Secure loose outdoor items and make the necessary preparations if conditions worsen

The Fiji Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the system and issue updates it develops.
