Upcoming amateur golfer Praveer Chand is set to compete in the 3rd Fiji Teams Championship 2026 at the Nadi Airport Golf Course on Sunday.
He heads into the event fresh from winning the Fiji PGA Championship at Denarau Golf Course last weekend. Chand finished three-over par (75) to claim the title in a play-off after players were tied at the end of regulation.
“The win was especially meaningful as it came down to staying composed under pressure and trusting the preparation put in over time,” he said.
“It’s always a great event, and I’m excited to test myself again against strong competition.”
The 36-year-old said he took up golf out of a genuine love for the game and its challenges.
“Golf is unique in that it tests not just physical skill, but also patience, discipline and mental strength. Over time, what started as a personal interest grew into a serious commitment to improving and competing at a higher level.
“Like any sport, there have been ups and downs, but each experience has contributed to growth and learning. Balancing professional responsibilities with competitive golf hasn’t always been easy, but staying disciplined and consistent has helped me progress steadily.
“The journey has reinforced the importance of preparation, integrity and perseverance — values that apply both on the golf course and in everyday life.”
Looking ahead, Chand hopes to continue competing at a high level while contributing to the development of golf locally.
“Personally, I aim to keep improving my game and staying competitive, while professionally continuing to grow and lead with integrity. Long term, I’d like to help inspire others to pursue both sporting and professional excellence.”
Chand works at the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) in an acting managerial role in Information Technology, supporting IT governance, security and operational initiatives while balancing professional responsibilities with competitive sport.
Golf Fiji president Amitesh Chandra said Golf Fiji would cover green fees and lunch for all participating players. The body will also provide club support: Fiji Golf Club ($400), Lautoka and Ba ($300 each), Labasa ($600) and Pacific Harbour ($400).
