Fiji Pro back with more opportunities

Fiji is gearing up to welcome the world’s best surfers when the Fiji Pro presented by Corona Cero returns to the iconic Cloudbreak reef from August 25 to September 4.

The event brings international attention and economic opportunities to the country.

The event marks stop number eight on the 2026 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour and is expected to attract elite surfers, international media, officials and fans from around the world.

With preparations well underway, the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry believes the event will provide a significant boost to tourism and local businesses, particularly in the western division.

Chamber president Lawrence Kumar said the Fiji Pro would generate increased visitor spending across the hospitality, transport and retail sectors while showcasing Fiji as a world-class sporting and tourism destination.

“Major international sporting events such as the Fiji Pro created valuable opportunities for local businesses and highlighted the country’s ability to host global competitions,” he said.

“The event is expected to draw thousands of visitors, with hotels, restaurants, tour operators and transport providers anticipating increased demand throughout the competition window.”

While Fiji remains one of the most celebrated venues on the Championship Tour, this year’s event comes with a notable change.

Kumar said Fiji would no longer host the final stop of the Championship Tour.

Despite the change in scheduling, he said Cloudbreak remained one of the most respected and anticipated venues among the world’s best surfers because of its powerful waves and challenging conditions.

Cloudbreak has earned a reputation as one of the premier left-hand reef breaks in the world, producing some of the most memorable performances in professional surfing.

The return of the Fiji Pro is also expected to provide valuable international exposure for the country, with global television coverage reaching millions of viewers and reinforcing Fiji’s reputation as a leading adventure and sports tourism destination.

Local surfing enthusiasts are also looking forward to watching the world’s top competitors tackle the famous reef break, while tourism stakeholders hope the event will inspire more visitors to experience Fiji’s renowned surf locations.

The Fiji Pro has become one of the country’s flagship international sporting events, combining elite competition with the natural beauty of Fiji’s coastline and reinforcing its standing on the global surfing calendar.
