Suva’s plan to contain Stallions

Suva rugby team manager Ulaiasi Butukoro says, his side must improve their attack and maintain possession in today’s Skipper Cup clash against hosts Nadroga at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.

“We need to control the match and keep possession against a team like Nadroga,” he told SUNsports yesterday.

“We need to increase the pace of the game as well.”

The Capital City side is expecting a stern challenge from Nadroga, renowned for their flair and free-flowing style of rugby.

“It is important that we stick to our game plan and maintain it throughout the match,” Butukoro said.

“We also need to build phases and convert them into points.”

Butukoro said his side showed great character in defence against Ba last week despite being reduced to 13 players.

“It will be a tough test for our new players against Nadroga,” he said.

“Our young players have gained valuable experience through our club competition, the Under-20 system and the Fiji Rugby High Performance Unit.”

Despite the challenge, Butukoro is confident their young players would rise to the occasion.

“We are hopeful the result will go in our favour,” he said.

“We have told the players to stick to the style of play implemented by the coaches.”

Butukoro said the coaching staff and management have also encouraged the players to enjoy the occasion.

“To the supporters of Suva Rugby, come out in numbers and cheer on the players,” he added.
