The launching of the 2026 Vodafone Cup season yesterday between the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) and Vodafone Fiji yesterday marked a major milestone in a partnership that has helped shape rugby league in Fiji for two decades.
Speaking to SUNsports at the launch at the HFC Bank Stadium VIP Lounge in Suva, FNRL chairman Rajesh Singh thanked Vodafone for its continued support for grassroots rugby league.
“Without Vodafone’s support, it would be difficult to deliver competitions such as the Vodafone Cup and the continuation of developing local talent,” Singh said.

The season kicks off tomorrow, with matches to be played at Buckhurst Park, Bidesi Park and respective venues in the Western Division.
Eight men’s teams will compete this season, alongside an 11-team women’s competition supported by GFED. A partnership funded by the Australian government, which spans over ten years.
Australia has allocate about AUD$34 million (equivalent to F$25m) annually to support grassroots initiatives, school programmes, and elite talent pathways for rugby league in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and Papua New Guinea Singh said the growth of the competition has paved the way for an ambitious provincial franchise competition planned for next year, starting with eight teams from around the country.
Vodafone Fiji Head of Marketing and Public Relations Adriu Vakarau said the sponsorship celebrates 20 years of partnership with FNRL.
“For two decades, we have witnessed rugby league grow from a grassroots sport into a national force. We are proud to have played a role in that journey,” he said.
FNRL director Culden Kamea described the Vodafone Cup as the foundation of rugby league development in Fiji, while Fiji National Sports Commission CEO Peter Mazey acknowledged the contribution of clubs and sponsors in helping the sport continue to grow nationwide.
