The Macuata Provincial Council is developing a strategic plan that includes youth engagement and resource management.

The plan aims to shape the province’s long-term development.

iTaukei Affairs Board director of operations Mosese Nakoroi, said six to seven key papers were presented by various subcommittees, each outlining their respective five-year strategic plans.

“We had started with $1.4 million from the Fiji Development Bank,” Mr Nakoroi said.

“There were challenges and struggles, but it laid the foundation for what we have today. “The main issue we discussed during the meeting is the strategic plan of the provincial council.

“This will guide Macuata’s future direction.”

According to Mr Nakoroi, the meeting marked an important step in aligning local initiatives with national framework.

He noted that consultation with key stakeholders including women’s groups, youth organisations, churches, and NGOs will take place to ensure that community voices are reflected in the longterm vision. “We want this plan to guide us for the next 20 to 30 years,” he said.

“The council will consult widely before finalising the document.”

Development projects will continue to be managed by the government, Mr Nakoroi said.

“The onus is on the council to tell Government what we want to achieve in our province in the years to come,” he said.

The meeting also addressed updates on ITE Limited, the corporation overseeing several of the province’s assets, including Macuata House, cane farms, staff quarters in Nomara, and subdivided lots.

Mr Nakoroi recalled the opening of Macuata House in 1994, a milestone achieved during the start of his service in the province.
