When the drums rolled and the boots hit the ground at the Lelean Memorial School passing out parade at Albert Park in Suva, one young man stood out—not just in uniform, but in heart.
Imanueli Volavola, 19, from Cuvu, Nadroga with maternal ties to Namalata, Tavuki in Kadavu, was awarded Best Male Platoon Commander for 2025. He proudly led Platoon 5 from Matainaniu (Red House).
But behind the sharp salute and confident voice was a story of quiet strength. Raised by his mother, Mr Volavola lost his father during his childhood, loss that shaped the young man he is today.

For Mr Volavola, taking part in the cadet parade was more than just a school requirement—it was a personal promise fulfilled. A promise to honour his late father’s words, and to make his mother, who raised him with love and sacrifice, proud.
My dad used to tell me, ‘If I’m not here one day, make sure to make your mother proud.' That’s the message that kept me going every single day.”

“I’m not done yet with my education,” he added. “But I promise I’ll finish it and achieve my dream. My goal, just to make my mother proud.''
His goal is clear—to carry on his father’s legacy and be a source of strength for those who believe in him. “My father was a strong person,” he said. “I want to be strong too for my family, and for everyone who’s supported me.”
As the sun set over Davuilevu, Mr Volavola's journey was just beginning. And with his father’s words still guiding him, his future is full of purpose and promise.
