Suspicious package found on Lau island under police investigation

Police are investigating the discovery of a suspicious package containing white substances found on an island in the Lau Group over the weekend.

The parcel was discovered on Saturday, May 30, by a woman and her daughter as they returned from a fishing trip.

The package has since been collected by Police and is now in official custody.

Authorities have confirmed that the substances are yet to be tested as investigations continue.

The Fiji Police Force acknowledged the quick reporting of the discovery and thanked community leaders for their ongoing support in helping authorities respond to such incidents.

Police are urging members of the public not to handle suspicious packages and to immediately report any discoveries or suspicious maritime activities.

Anyone who finds a suspicious item is advised to contact their nearest Police Station or Post, or call 1681.

Suspicious maritime activities can also be reported through pacificwatch.org.

Investigations are ongoing.
