The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has taken strong action against tenants who have failed to pay their lease rent.
This follows a major enforcement operation in Lautoka last Friday.
In a statement released today, the board revealed it disconnected utility services (water and electricity) for tenants with overdue rent.

According to the board, this move helped recover over $32,000 for landowners.
The board also enforced four court orders with another two pending. This includes dismantling houses built on leased land with unpaid rent.
The board says this operation shows that TLTB is serious about protecting landowners’ rights and making sure tenants follow the law.
What tenants should do
TLTB is urging all tenants to:
- Pay rent on time to avoid legal action; and
- Reach out early if facing financial difficulties as TLTB offers structured payment plans to help tenants manage arrears.
“TLTB urges all tenants to pay their lease rent on time. Failure to do so will result in legal action. We are committed to assisting tenants through structured payment plans," the statement read.
“Remember: It is our legal responsibility to collect rent and ensure that landowners receive fair returns from the use of their land. And it is your responsibility as tenants to pay your rent/arrears on time. Let’s work together to resolve outstanding payments and avoid court proceedings.”
