Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has voiced concerns over escalating power struggles within key Government institutions, specifically issues at the ODPP and Fiji Corrections Service.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is embroiled in controversy after senior management lodged a complaint against reinstated DPP Christopher Pryde. Acting DPP Nancy Tikoisuva confirmed the allegations, which include abuse of office and unauthorised payments. “The complaint refers to payments made without the President’s approval between 2013 and 2018, gratuity in excess of entitlements, and irregular family travel expenses,” she said.
Mr Pryde was reinstated on January 15, despite these allegations and a prior suspension linked to a controversial interaction with former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at a social event in February 2023.

Justice Minister Siromi Turaga is also under scrutiny after his decision to place Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa on extended leave—a move deemed outside his authority and reserved for the Constitutional Offices Commission. Mr Rabuka defended the public’s right to question Government actions, emphasising accountability and transparency. “There is nothing wrong with questioning the actions of government offices,” he said. “We must act according to our job descriptions in the roles we play.”
The PM acknowledged the challenges of transitioning from 16 years of governance under the former administration. “Now people are free to speak, we are assessing the concerns raised,” he said. The allegations, coupled with internal disputes, underscore the need for stronger governance and adherence to constitutional processes.
