Childhood dream realised for Moala recruit
Twenty-five-year-old Steven Bolaitamana Mataele says joining the Fiji Police Force will allow him to support his family and serve the community with integrity.

Police Constable Steven Bolaitamana Mataele of Naroi, Moala in Lau, has fulfilled a childhood dream by joining the Fiji Police Force.
This is a journey he says has built his character and strengthened his resolve.
He shares family links to Kororerega and Vaturova in Cakaudrove, and one of his main goals is to support his family financially.

“It has always been my dream to become a police officer and also to help my family,” he said.
PC Mataele, 25, described the training as both mentally and physically challenging, but said it helped him develop the discipline and skills of a police officer.
The training taught me to be disciplined in even the simplest tasks and the importance of carrying out my duties with excellence.

He received the Baton of Honour award and promised to serve the community with integrity and professionalism.
“I will run with a commitment and intent, gaining public trust and serving with honesty,” he said.
PC Mataele advised young people who aspire to join the Force to overcome their fears and apply.
“Joining the Force will improve your attitude and teach discipline. With discipline, you can go a long way,” he said.
He also urged the public to obey laws and enjoy the festive season responsibly.
“During Christmas, I encourage everyone to drink responsibly, abide by the laws, and spend time with family,” he said.
PC Mataele thanked his instructors and batch members for their support throughout training.
He dedicated his achievement to his parents, his mother, Maritina Mataele, and especially his late father, Wea Mataele, who passed away in July 2025.
“Everything I have achieved is because of my family and the guidance they gave me,” he said.
Hailing from a small village, PC Mataele said his story proves that determination and hard work can turn dreams into reality.
His journey marks the start of a career built on discipline, integrity, and a commitment to serving the people of Fiji.
