“Secondly, we will strengthen our fundraising efforts because successful fundraising means more lives touched and more communities supported,” Ms Simmons of Labasa said.
“Third, we will deepen our collaboration with other Rotary clubs in Savusavu, Taveuni, Viti Levu, and internationally as I believe the key to successful projects is partnership.”
She aims to work closely not only within Rotary but also with stakeholders across Government, Non-Government Organisations and community groups, to bring meaningful change to the North.
She said as Rotarians, they live by the timeless motto adopted in 1989: ‘service above self’.
“These are not just words; they are a way of life and we lead by example,” she said. “We give without expecting anything in return. And we serve, because we believe in building a better world, starting right from Labasa.”
The former journalist and now a businesswoman by profession said to be the president of this Club was an honour.
“It it is also a responsibility to inspire, listen from the members and to move forward together,” she said.
I look forward to learning from seasoned Rotarians, mentoring new ones and working alongside each of you to implement projects that truly make a difference.”
She is currently the executive member of the Labasa Chamber of Commerce, a Justice of Peace, secretary of the Macuata Tourism Association and a board member of Labasa Golden Age Home.
