More Fijians travel for holiday, leisure

A total of 15,223 Fiji Residents departed our shores during the month of July, the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS) have revealed.
Of the 15, 223, 13,488 or 88.6 per cent were for a short-term absence of under three months and 625 or 4.1 per cent were for over three months and within 12 months period.
A total of 1,110 or 7.3 per cent of resident departures were for a longer-term absence of 1 year or more.
The FBoS revealed that provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for July 2024 totaled 98,332.
Of the 98,332 visitors, the FBoS stated that 97,331 came by air while 1001 came by sea.
“The sea arrivals were mostly seamen on fishing vessels (718) and 283 arrivals by yacht.
“For July 2024 visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 79.9 per cent of total arrivals, 9.9 per cent came to visit their friends or relatives, 1.6 per cent came for business purposes, while 8.6 per cent visited Fiji for other reasons.”
The number was a record for the month of July and represents a significant increase of 5.2 per cent compared to a year earlier.
“There is an increase of 6.2 per cent compared to June 2024, which recorded a total of 92,571.
“In 2023 and 2022, visitor arrivals for July stood at 93,483 and 78,368 respectively.”
