Energy Fiji Limited not only has the capacity to increase its productivity and efficiency in Fiji, it can also have its footprint in other Pacific Island countries.

This was highlighted by the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum during the EFL awards night on Saturday.

Talking to partners in a multilateral development bank, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said they (partners) are seeing EFL now as a major regional player.

Meanwhile, while the electricity rates in Fiji was only 34 cents per unit, other Pacific Island countries were paying about $1.40 to $1.50.

“There opportunities for EFL, don’t just think about being an organisation that is restricted to Fiji but one that can be a model for other Pacific Islands.”

“Any organisation is as good as the people it has. So critical investment in human capital is utterly important making sure that organisations not only perform but achieve optimum level of performance.

He added the awards would recognize the conditions in which the EFL staff works in especially meeting the demands of the Fijian people during cyclones and lockdowns.

“You are playing a major part in the Fijian Government’s effort to ensure that we build resilience in our economy and when we build more resilience, we become a lot more productive which increases the living standards of more people.”
