Eight pending cases emerge as drug accused seeks bail

A man accused of multiple drug offences has been further remanded in custody after the prosecution told the court he has eight other pending cases.
Vishal Rohit Prasad of Nadi Back Road appeared before Magistrate Jeremaia Savou in the Nadi Magistrate Court today, accused of multiple drug possession offences.
The court heard that on August 5 in Nadi, Prasad allegedly had 0.691 grams of methamphetamine, 0.458 grams of cocaine and 5.7 grams of Cannabis sativa (Indian hemp).

He is also accused of breaching a suspended two-month prison sentence imposed by the Lautoka Magistrates Court.
Prasad sought the assistance of a Legal Aid Commission lawyer and asked the court for forgiveness.
He also applied for bail, telling the court he has a son who attends a special school and that there was no one at home to care for the child.
Police prosecution opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences.
The prosecution also told the court Prasad has eight other pending cases before the Nadi Magistrate Court.
Prasad asked to be remanded in Suva, but Magistrate Savou said the matter falls under the Nadi division and ordered that he remain at the Natabua Remand Centre in Lautoka.
The case was adjourned to August 19 for a bail ruling.
